Fund managers are warming to climate theme

What’s more, such investors now have a new place to put their money - in the shape of funds that focus on companies providing solutions to climate change. Within the past couple of months F&C introduced its Global Climate Opportunities fund and HSBC unveiled its Climate Change Fund. Virgin Money is starting a fund this month and Allianz’s Global EcoTrends Fund will be up and running next month. Schroders launched a climate change fund in September and Jupiter’s Ecology fund is more than 20 years old.
“There is a wave of takeover activity, fuelled by a new trend for companies to buy existing environmentally themed businesses, rather than start up new ones,” he says. “For example, garden centre chains have begun to interest big retailers because they are seen as the ideal vehicle for selling environmentally linked products, such as wind turbines, to consumers.”
It is a really wonderful to see mainstream investing into companies and projects that support the planet, rather than destroy it.
